Businesses across the world are doing their part to reduce carbon emissions, reduce fuel and save money. For the environment and for their bottom line.
In Waterford, businesses account for 37% of emissions, the majority of those coming from energy use.
Taking Climate Action is something we must all do in society, the Council itself is working towards a goal of a 51% carbon emissions reduction by 2030.
To reward businesses who are working towards becoming more energy efficient, Waterford City and County Council have instituted a Commercial Rates Energy Credit for businesses of a certain size who are willing to examine their energy use and make savings.
This is the first year of this programme and businesses can avail of this credit by watching a short video and answering the questions that follow. Overall it takes less than 10 minutes to apply.
We look forward to working with you all over the coming years to make energy savings and to make our county an attractive, sustainable place for business.
Your business is eligible if it pays commercial rates and where your annual commercial rates bill is less than €10,000 or your business operates in the hospitality and leisure industry. Applicants who complete the program will have the equivalent of the 5% rates increase applicable in 2022 credited to their account. Accounts must also be fully paid by the 30 September 2022, or are in an agreed Direct Debit/payment plan.
While multiple drafts are allowed, there should only be one complete application submitted per each Rates Customer account number.
